McPherson University held her 8th annual sport week from 16th to 18th of June 2021 at the University sport complex .
The event was sponsored by the school’s Vice Chancellor Professor Adeniyi Agunbiade. It was a three day event filled with both indoor and outdoor sport activities.
As the Sport week consisted mainly of Inter-College competitions, many students happily and willingly volunteered to represent their respective colleges in the numerous activities that were going to take place during the sport week.
To mark the beginning of the sport events, the board of directors for the sport events encouraged the students to participate in a full marathon racing event. The students took off at about 9:00am and they returned around 12:00pm in the afternoon. Emerging as the winner for the female marathon race were Olusola 200 level student from(COLNAS) as the first runner up and Essien 400 level from(COLNAS) as the second position and Rasheed Loveth 200 level(COSMAS) came third position. Faith Dairo, Adonis Orosun and Ayomide Olayanju came out on top for the male marathon race, both male and female were given medals and cash prizes.
The indoor games were also part of the sport events and they are chess, ludo, monopoly, long tennis scrabble and cards. Students volunteered to represent their various colleges and at the end of the games the College of Natural and Applied Science (COLNAS) emerged as the winner of the game with 19 medals.
Moreso, on the 8th of June was the outdoor games volleyball, basketball, long jump, high jump, javelin,discus-throw etc. Students volunteered to represent their various colleges ,in volleyball COSMAS won, in basketball COLNAS won, for the long jump COSMAS had 3 medals while COLNAS had 2 medals, for high jump COSMAS won a golden medal and COLNAS won a silver medal, for discus-throw COSMAS won two golden medals and COLNAS won two silver and two bronze medals, for javelin both male and female in COLNAS has 3 medals while COSMAS had 2 medals and that was the end of the field events.
Furthermore, the last event for the sport week was the track events, students, Vice Chancellor, Bursar, Registrar, Head of departments, lecturers and the Dean of Students Affairs were all present to witness the program. Mr Ayodeji addressed students to relax and watch all the activities during some events and at the end of the races COLNAS won and COSMAS took second position, for the football match which was so challenging for both colleges for the male , COLNAS had golden cup and medals while COSMAS had a silver cup and medals. For the female category COSMAS girls had a golden cup and medals while COLNAS had a silver cup and medals at the end of the football matches.
In conclusion, at the end of the sport events COLNAS had a total of 51 medals to emerged as the overall winner and COSMAS had a total of 37 medals as the second position while COLHUM gathered 5 medals in total. COLNAS students were congratulated by the Vice Chancellor Professor Adeniyi Agunbiade for their efforts and sportsmanship towards all the events, Director for sport Mr Ayodeji Awotula thanked all the students for the success of the sport week events and he assured that the next edition will be great.
The lecturers of COLNAS cheered their students for their victory. The program came to an end with a closing prayer by Dr Michael Osho and every students went to their respectives hostels .
